First version of South African Airways Airbus A340-300 features a two class configuration; with 38 flat bed seats in Business and 216 Economy Class seats, for a total seating capacity of 253 passengers.

Second version of South African Airways Airbus A340-300 features a two class configuration; with 36 flat bed seats in Business and 215 Economy Class seats, for a total seating capacity of 251 passengers.

The business-class cabin on South African Airways’ A340-300 consists of two separate cabins full of 38 lie-flat business-class seats arranged in a 2-2-2 configuration.

The majority of the seats are in the front section, while just 12 are located in the rear section.

Each seat is 23.7 inches wide and offers 73 inches of pitch.

And all of them turn into fully lie-flat beds.

The plane is configured 2-4-2 (A-C, D-E-F-G, H-K) across two economy cabins (rows 45-56 and 62-76) and two business class sections at the front (rows one to five, and 15-16) on board this wide-bodied A340-300.

This two-class A330-300 has 36 business class seats arranged 2-2-2 (A-C, D-G, H-K), and 186 economy seats in a 2-4-2 (A-C, D-E-F-G, H-K) layout across two sections (rows 45 to 54, and 45 to 68).

The business-class cabin was split in two sections: a forward cabin consisting of eight rows to the left of Door L2 and a small cabin to the right consisting of four rows.

Aside from selecting a seat flush with the window, the best seats in the house belonged to the bulkhead, rows 1 and 9.

The bulkhead seats were the exact same as any of the others except for a much larger footwell.

Each business-class seat is 79 inches in its lie-flat position, has 45 inches of pitch and features in-seat power via an international power socket as well as a USB port.

These new Thompson Vantage XL seats for South African Airways are visually stunning.

In terms of the interior design, the patterns, stitching and colors bring a strong presence of modern South Africa into the cabin.

The economy seat is quite hard but does have individual seat-back screens with entertainment on demand.

There were a handful of recent release movies as well as old favourites and foreign films.

The product is upholstered in grey striped fabric with brown armrests. It doesn’t look especially modern.

Fixed-wing headrests bend around for support when sleeping, which is a great help when enduring economy over-night.

Pillows with synthetic papery covers are provided, along with thin red blankets that don’t offer much warmth.

Headphones are provided along with simple amenity packs containing socks, an eye mask, toothbrush and paste.

Each Business Class seat is fitted with a 15-inch screen, whilst each Economy Class seat has its own 10-inch screen.

These high-tech touchscreens are fun and easy to use, giving you access to many hours of entertainment.

You’ll be spoilt for choice with over 100 movies to enjoy – from the latest blockbusters to old favourites and a wide selection of African and Asian titles.
