Virgin Atlantic Fleet Airbus A340-600 Details and Pictures. On current fleet, there’s 6 wide-body aircraft Airbus A340-600 on Virgin Atlantic fleet.

Virgin Atlantic were the first airline to introduce the Airbus A340-600, and at 75.3 metres it’s one of the longest civil aircraft made.

You could find yourself flying on Surfer Girl, Scarlet Lady, Bubbles, Lady Luck, Emmeline Heaney, Lady Bird or Dancing Queen.

In terms of range, the A340-600 offers unmatched operational flexibility on non-stop flights over remote areas such as oceans and mountain ranges, allowing for operations that are not subject to ETOPS (Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards) regulations.

This enables airlines to fly more direct routes – even long distances over water or on segments far from airports – saving travel time and cutting fuel consumption.

Virgin Atlantic Fleet Airbus A340-600 Cabin Interior Class Configuration and Seats Layout

The Virgin Atlantic Airbus A340-600 aircraft is configured in three classes, including Upper Class, Premium Economy and Economy.

Virgin charges extra for bulkhead, exit row, and other seats which have more legroom.

These seats are referred to as Extra Legroom Seats.

This three-class A340-600 is configured with economy seats in a 2-4-2 (A-C, D-E-F-G, H-K) layout, premium economy in a 2-3-2 (A-C, D-E-F, H-K) configuration, and business aligned 1-1-1 (A, D, K).

The Upper Class cabin on the A340-600 is large, with 45 herringbone seats across 16 rows between doors 1 and 2.

It was quickly apparent that the 1-1-1 configuration felt much less cramped than the A330 cabin.

The flight was maybe half full in Upper Class.

Premium economy occupies rows 18-23 and each seat has individual nine-inch screens and audio-video on-demand (AVOD) entertainment, as well as tray tables that slide out of the armrests, bottles of water, purple leather upholstery, blankets, and amenity kits containing socks, toothbrushes and paste, eyemasks and biros.

Bulkhead seats A-C and H-K in row 18 offer more legroom so are preferable for those who are taller.

Don’t choose seats A-C or H-K in row 22 or seats D-E-F in row 23 as they are directly in front of economy class and the washrooms so you may suffer from disturbance.

They also have limited recline.

Middle seats E are also best avoided as you don’t have direct aisle access or a view out of a window.

Economy class is spread across two sections on this A340-600 (rows 31-46 and 51-65) and seating is configured 2-4-2 (A-C, D-E-F-G, H-K), which is great if you are in either of the pairs but not so good if you are in one of the middle E-F seats as they feel very claustrophobic.

Seats A-C and H-K are upholstered in grey fabric and have red seatbelts, while middle seats D-E-F-G have red fabric and red seatbelts.

There are individual nine-inch seat-back in-flight entertainment (IFE) screens and remotes in the armrest or in the back of the seat underneath the screen (as with seats D-E-F-G).

The cabin was clean and smart with chrome handles on the overhead bins and air conditioning vents.

Virgin’s economy seats on this aircraft have a pitch of up to 31 inches/79cm, a width of 19 inches/48cm (1.5 inches/4cm more than on its B747s and A340-300s), a recline of six inches/15cm (one inch/2.5cm more than on its other planes) and audio-video on-demand entertainment systems with a good selection of movies.

Middle seats D-E-F-G in row 43 are behind a bulkhead so have tray tables and IFE screens that come out of the arm instead of the seat in front, as do those in exit rows 31 and 51.

Passengers wanting extra legroom will have to pay for it upon checking in at the airport – those seats with an increased pitch of three inches cost from £30, and in exit rows from £50.

Avoid sitting in E-F seats as they offer no direct aisle access and can make you feel claustrophobic.

Those sitting in rows 44-46 and 64-65 may suffer some disturbance from people queuing for the adjacent washrooms.

If you want a decent view out of the window, avoid seats A/K in rows 31-38 as they are over the wing.

Virgin Atlantic Fleet Airbus A330-300 Cabin Interior Class Configuration and Seats Layout

This Virgin Atlantic A330-300 configuration features 3 classes including Upper Class, Premium Economy, and Economy seating options.

All A330-300 aircraft are powered by two Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines.

Virgin Atlantic’s brand new Panasonic fully touch screen AVOD system JAM, is available in all classes featuring over 300 hours of on demand entertainment.

Virgin Atlantic charges extra for bulkhead, exit row, and other seats which have more legroom.

The A330-300’s Upper Class cabin comprises nine rows in Virgin’s 1-2-1 herringbone layout (A, D-G, K), with both window and centre seats angled towards the aisle.

The configuration means everyone has direct aisle access and a decent amount of privacy, as no seat is immediately next to another.

Partially opaque dividers also separate you from the passengers in front and behind.

The aisles are fairly tight, as are the galley and bar areas, so if you are on a day flight with people congregating you may have to push through to get to the washrooms, located at the front and back of the cabin (the back ones are also used by premium economy passengers so can get busy).

The new Upper Class seat is an evolution of the older incarnation rather than a complete overhaul.

Upholstered in dark brown leather, it comprises a seat and an ottoman that join together to create a 87-inch fully-flat bed (82 inches in the centre seats) – you flip over the seat to create the bed.

If you are travelling with someone they could opt to sit on the ottoman and dine with you.

The IFE control is also built into the divider, and there is a fold-down armrest, a small fold-down drinks tray, buttons for the seat recline, lumbar support and reading light, a magazine pocket, universal in-seat power via a socket at floor level, USB and other inputs and noise-cancelling headphones.

There is some storage space underneath the ottoman and inside it, and a small space for placing your bottle of water when the seat is in bed mode.

There are no overhead lockers above the central seats, which gives the cabin an open feel.

Premium economy occupies its own cabin between Upper Class and economy between rows 19 and 25, and is arranged 2-3-2 (A-C, G-F-D, H-K).

The product is very comfy and spacious – not just a regular economy seat with extra legroom.

It is 21 inches wide with at least 38 inches of legroom, and upholstered in purple leather.

The broad central armrests feature a flat section for drinks to be placed, and passengers either have footrests or, if you are directly behind a bulkhead, a supportive ottoman cushion.

There are individual 10.5-inch touchscreens and remotes in the side of the armrest/under the seat-back monitors.

The IFE system offers on-demand movies and TV shows, and there is also in-flight wifi and the ability to make voice calls and send SMS messages from your mobile. There is also the option to send messages to fellow passengers via the IFE system.

Seats in row 19 are behind the bulkhead so offer the most legroom – however, there are some downsides to sitting here.

The IFE screen lifts up out of the divide between the seats as there is no seat in front for it to be mounted on.

Although you can normally watch films during take-off and landing these days, you can’t if you sit here because the monitor has to be stored as these times.

Seat Map and Seating Chart Airbus A330 300 Virgin Atlantic

his version of Virgin Atlantic Airbus A330-300 may transport 266 passengers in three classes: upper class, premium economy and economy.

The upper class consists of 33 open suites that have 180 degrees recline.

Most of the open suites have 1-2-1 configuration.

Proximity of the galley may be bothersome for passengers of the seats of the 1st row.

The length of the seats 1DG in total bed length is 5 inches shorter than other seats of this class.

In the end of the upper class section a bar is located.

Close location of the seats of the 8-9th row to it may cause discomfort to passengers.

As the seats 9A and 9K have no windows these seats are considered bad seats.

Behind the exit row 48 seats of premium economy class are located.

Passengers of the seats 18AC, 20DFG and 20HK will take advantage of extra legroom thanks to position of the bulkhead.

Other passengers tend to gather in the area of these seats while waiting to use lavatories causing discomfort to passengers of these seats.

As the tray tables are built-in the armrests the width of these seats is reduced a little.

Also these seats have no floor storage during take-off and landing.

Proximity of the galley may represent a problem for passengers of the seat 19C.

The seats 21A and 21K are missing windows.

The only possible disadvantage of the seats of the last 25th row of the premium economy class is the noise that may come from more crowded economy class.

Economy class has 185 standard seats that are divided into two classes.

The best seats here are the seats of the 40th row as they may have extra space for passengers’ legs.

However, these seats are narrower than standard and have no floor storage during take-off and landing.

Close location of the lavatories may cause discomfort to passengers of the seats 45AC, 46D, 46HK, 47D, 47G and for passengers of the seats of the 48th row.

Limited recline is another disadvantage of the seats 45AC, 45HK and 48DEFG.

Behind another exit row the second section of economy class seats is located.

Passengers of the seats 49DEFG will feel comfortable thanks to extra legroom provided by the position of the bulkhead.

But these seats are often bumped by other passengers and crew members with service carts that use this area to cross over the aisle.

Also these seats are narrower than standard as the tray tables are in the armrests making them immovable.

The seats AC and HK of the rows 50-55 are designated as preferred seats to reserve which an extra fee should be paid.

However, the seats 50AC and 50HK are narrower than standard.

As the seats 61C and 61H jut out into the aisle, on the one hand they offer some extra legroom but on the other are often bumped by other passengers passing by.

Close location of the galley and lavatories may cause discomfort to passengers of the seats 64AC, 64D, 64G, 64HK and 65DFG.

In addition the seats 64AC, 64HK and 65DFG are less reclining than standard that is why these seats are considered bad seats.

Virgin Atlantic Airbus A330 223 G VMNK Daydream Believer at Manchester Airport

Virgin Atlantic Fleet Airbus A330-200 Details and Pictures. On current fleet, Virgin Atlantic operates 4 wide-body aircraft Airbus A330-200.

The first of Virgin Atlantic Airbus A330-200 to join their fleet began operating from 01 March 2018.

“Daydream Believer” (G-VMNK) entered service first, with “Scarlett O’Hara” (G-VWND) and “Honky Tonk Woman” (G-VMIK) joining in the following weeks, and “Strawberry Fields” (G-VLNM) joining in spring 2018.

These are Virgin Atlantic aircraft, operated by their own pilots and world class cabin crew.

A quick reminder of the background to this saga:  is one of the airlines hardest hit by the engine problems which have befallen the Rolls-Royce powered Boeing 787-9 fleet.

When Air Berlin went bankrupt late last year, its A330-200 long-haul fleet was suddenly available for lease.

Virgin Atlantic jumped in and signed a four year deal on four aircraft.

This has allowed it to maintain its flying programme and, once the 787-9 issues are over, will even give it some interesting options for expansion.
