British Airways Fleet Boeing 747-400 Details and Pictures

British Airways Fleet Boeing 747-400 Details and Pictures. On current fleet, British Airways operated 34 Jumbo Jet “Queen of The Skies” Boeing 747-400.

BA is the world’s largest operator of the Boeing 747.

The 747-400 is a proven performer with high reliability and incorporates major aerodynamic improvements over earlier 747 models, including the addition of winglets to reduce drag, new avionics, and a new flight deck.

The 747 fits into today’s infrastructure, serving more than 210 airports around the world and is also the world’s fastest commercial jetliner.

The 747-400’s most noticeable aerodynamic improvement over previous 747s is the 6-foot (1.8-m) longer wing with a 6-foot-high winglet angled upward and slightly outward.

This change reduces fuel burn and extends the aircraft’s range.

The winglet provides the effect of having an even greater wingspan without outgrowing the standard airport slot.

The wingtip extension and winglet offer a fuel mileage improvement of about 3 percent, which during the life span of an airplane amounts to considerable savings.

This version includes 345 seats in 4 classes.

First class has 14 open suites. All of them are standard without any special features.

World Traveller Plus may transport 36 passengers.

Passengers who are traveling with babies are often seated on the seats 11J and 11K and the seats 12AB and 12DEFG as these seats have extra legroom because of the bulkhead position.

Among disadvantages of these seats are: lack of floor storage during take-off and landing, close location of the lavatories and galley, reduced seat width as the tray tables are in the armrests making them immovable and finally the seats 12DEFG have no overhead storage.

The main disadvantage of the seats 15AB and 15DEFG is proximity of the galley and lavatory.

All the seats of the 15th row located at the sides. i.e. the seats 15B, 15D, 15G and 15J have movable armrests.

Proximity of the galley may be bothersome for passengers of the seats 16J and 16K.

As tray tables are in the armrests, the armrests are immovable what reduced the width of these seats a little.

Club World seats are located both in the lower deck and upper deck. In the lower deck there are 32 flat bed seats that are located in 4 rows per 8 seats in each.

E and F seats of these section are ideal for people who are traveling with a companion.

These seats are not private enough for passengers who are traveling along.

Close location of the lavatories is the main disadvantage of the seats 17BDGJ.

Passengers inform that if the door of the lavatory is not closed well it can hit the seats 17B and 17J when they are in lie-flat position.

World Traveller section includes 243 seats.

Here are the main features of the seats of 28th row: these seats are good for passengers who are traveling with infants as these seats have some extra legroom thanks to the exit row in front.

However, the width of these seats is reduced, there is no floor storage during take-off and landing and it can get very cold by the exits during the flight.

The best seats of this section are the seats 29A and 29K as due to the missing seat in front passengers of these seats will feel comfortable having more free space for their legs.

But the width of these seats is reduced and there is no floor storage during take-off and landing.

The only disadvantage of the seats of 37th row is proximity of the galley and lavatories.

The seats 39HJK are seats with bassinet location that are offered to passengers traveling with babies.

These seats have less legroom and misaligned window.

As the tray tables are in the armrests the width of these seats is reduced.

Among other disadvantages: lack of floor storage during take-off and landing, close location of the galley. In-seat TV cannot be used at the same time with bassinet.

Passengers of the seats 40AB and 40DEFG will take advantage of extra legroom.

On these seats are often seated passengers with infants.

The width of these seats is slightly reduced and there is no floor storage for these seats during takeoff and landing.

Close location to the galley may be also a problem.

The seat 40C is a standard seat with movable armrest.

As the fuselage begins to taper in at 50th row the seats 50A and 50K feel especially cramped.

The seats 51A, 51J and 52A, 52J have extra space at the sides as there are no windows seats.

These seats as well as he seats 53AB and 53HJare good for passengers traveling with a partner.

Close location of the lavatories may be bothersome for passengers of the seats 53AB and 53HJ, 54D and 54G and for passengers of the last 55th row.

The seats of the 55th row may also have limited recline and for this reason are considered bad seats.

In the upper deck are located other 20 flat bed seats of the Club World class located in 5 rows per 4 in each.

Close location of the seats 60B and 60J to the lavatory may be bothersome.

The best seats in this section are the seats 62A and 62K and the seats 63B and 63J.

These seats have extra legroom thanks to the exit row.

The main disadvantage of the seats 64J and 64K is proximity of the stairs, galley and lavatory.

Second version of Boeing 747-400 has 299 seats.

The seats on this airplane are divided into 4 classes.

First class has 14 open suites.

The seats 1A and 1K are located close to the closet and do not have overhead bin storage.

Middle seats of the 4th and 5th row, i.e. the seats 4EF and 5EF are ideal for passengers who are traveling with partner.

Club World section has 70 flat bed seats, 50 of which are located in the lower deck.

All middle E and F seats here are good for people who are traveling with companions, but not for passengers who are traveling along as these seats are not very private.

The main disadvantage of the seats of 14th row is proximity of lavatories and galley.

The seats 14D and 14G are often offered to passengers who are traveling with infants as there is a basinet location behind these seats.

Close location of the lavatories may represent a problem for passengers of the seats 17BDGJ.

Other passengers inform that in case the lavatory door is not closed well, it can swing out and hit the seats 17B and 17J if they have lie-flat position.

World Traveller Plus section includes 30 standard seats.

The best seats here are all seats of the 28th row and the seats 29A and 29K.

Passengers of these seats will take advantage of extra legroom.

At the same time these seats have no floor storage during takeoff and landing and as the tray tables are in the armrests, the width of these seats is reduced a little.

E and F seats of the rows from 29 to 31 may have less legroom due to equipment box stored under the seats located in front.

The seats 31DEFG may have limited recline because of the bulkhead located behind.

There are 185 seats on World Traveller section.

Most seats in World Traveller section have 3-4-3 configuration, except 39th row and last 5 rows of the airplane.

The seats of the 33rd row have restricted legroom because of the bulkhead located in front that separates two sections.

The tray tables are in the armrests making them immovable and reducing the width of these seats.

Another disadvantage of these seats is lack of floor storage during take-off and landing.

The seats of this row have bassinet location that is why passengers with babies are often seated here.

The seats of the 36th row have limited recline as it is the last row in the section.

Other passengers gather here to visit lavatory and this fact may be bothersome for passengers of these seats.

The seats 36CDG also have restricted legroom as entertainment equipment is stored under these seats.

Passengers of the seats 39HJK and 40ABC, 40DEFG will feel comfortable thanks to the extra space for their legs.

However, close location of the galley may represent a problem.

Among other disadvantages of these seats: lack of floor storage during take-off and landing.

These seats are often offered to passengers with babies as these seats have bassinet location.

If you are travelling with companion the seats 51AB and 51HJ as well as the seats 52AB and 52HJ will be ideal for you.

A and J seats in these rows have extra space on sides where window seats should be.

But the seats C and H on the contrary have less foot space and under-seat storage space as entertainment equipment is stored here.

Also for passengers who are traveling with partners will be good seats 53BC and 53HJ.

Proximity of the lavatories may be bothersome for passengers of these seats as well as for seats 54D and 54G and of the last 55th row.

The seats of the 55th row may have limited recline.

In the upper deck are located the other 20 flat bed seats of Club World section.

The upper deck is usually quiet and has high-quality service.

All window seats here have extra room between the seat and the window that can be used for storage.

The seats of the 60th row have restricted overhead storage.

Proximity of the lavatory may be bothersome for passengers of the seats 60J and 60K.

The overhead bins of all seats of the upper deck are smaller and cannot hold large roll-aboard luggage.

The best seats here are the seats 62A and 62K and as these seats have extra legroom and possibility to get in and out the seats without disturbing other passengers.

Close location to the stairs, galley and lavatory may be a problem for passengers of the seats 64K and 64J.

The lower deck offers seats of all 4 classes.

First 5 rows contain 14 open suites of the first class.

All these seats and standard only the seats of the 5th row have such a disadvantage as galleys and lavatories located behind.

Behind the seats of the first class 66 flat bed seats of the club world class are located.

These seats are divided into 3 sections.

First section has 18 flat bed seats.

Proximity of the galleys will cause inconvenience to passengers of the seats 12 JK, 13G and 14GJ.

Close location of the lavatories is the disadvantage of the seats 13B and 13D.

But the noise from the galley and lavatory located behind will represent problem to passengers of the seats 14B and 14D.

Second section located behind the exit row contains 4 rows of seats that have 2-4-2 configuration.

Location of the galley and lavatory in front is the only disadvantage of the seats of the 17th row.

The third section with 2 rows of seats is located behind another exit row.

There are totally 16 flat bed seats here of the club world class.

The seats of the world traveler plus class are divided from the seats of the club world class with a bulkhead position of which provides extra legroom to passengers of the seats of the 33rd row.

These seats are considered the best seats in this class.

Proximity of the galley and lavatory will cause discomfort to passengers of the seats 35JK, 36AB and 36DEFG.

Behind one more exit row 145 standard seats of the world traveler class are located.

Passengers of the seats 40AB will take advantage of extra legroom.

These seats are considered good seats.

The seats 39HJK and 40DEF offer additional legroom as well but close location of the galleys in front may cause discomfort.

Passengers tend to congregate while waiting to use lavatories in the area of the seats 53BC, 53HJ, 54D, 54G and 55 DEFG thus causing discomfort to passengers of these seats.

Limited recline makes 53BC, 53HJ and 55 DEFG bad seats.

Proximity of the lavatories may cause inconvenience to passengers of the seats 60B and 60J.

Behind the exit row second section with 2 rows of seats is located.

There are totally 8 seats here.

The only disadvantage of the seats 64B and 64JK is location of the lavatory behind.
