LOT Polish Airlines has five 737 MAX aircraft grounded and an option for five more through its supplier, Air Lease Corporation.

According to claims made by the analytical company OAG, the country’s flagship carrier LOT Polish Airlines could potentially lose USD 200 million following the blanket grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX.

MAX aircraft have been grounded across the world since mid-March following two fatal crashes in Ethiopia and the Java Sea.

A total of 346 people died in the accidents with early findings pointing to faults in the anti-stall system.

OAG estimate the LOT’s Boeing 737 offer should have totalled 2.3 million seats from February 18th to August 5th.

However, the grounding meant that the airline made use of only 338,500 seats over this period.

In real terms, the results show that LOT have lost close on 1.97 million seats, a figure that translates into lost revenue of around USD 200 million.

There are 18 Business Class seats, 18 Economy Plus seats and 148 Economy Class seats.

In Business Class, all of the middle seats are blocked in order to provide more room for Business Class passengers.

The business class cabin is just normal economy seats with red head covers.

While LOT Polish Airlines also creatively offers premium economy seating with just a blue head cover instead.

Other than this, they don’t get meal service either, not sure if there’s actually a market for such division.

The 737-400 design was launched in 1985 to fill the gap between the 737-300 and the 757-200, and competed with the Airbus A320 and McDonnell Douglas MD-80.

Premium economy offers 21 recliner seats, with a pitch of 38” and 19.5” width.

Finally, the economy class accommodates 213 passengers in seats with a pitch of 32” and a width of 16.9”.

Each business seat is configured with a personal in-flight entertainment (IFE) system along with two reading lamps, a USB port, universal electrical outlet, coat hook and overhead air vents.

The seats are fully flat, so there’s an “ottoman” of sorts connected to the row of seats in front, which becomes part of the bed when you recline.

Each seat has a coat hook and storage unit above the ottoman, as well as an area to store your shoes or other small personal items below the ottoman.

WiFi was not provided on this flight.

The premium economy seats were arranged in a 2-3-2 seating arrangement.

Seats measured 20 inches between armrests.

The middle armrests measured 6 inches wide, allowing enough elbow space for both passengers.

Pitch measured just 37 inches, which was especially tight given the thick seats.

There was very little storage space in these seats.

Only a 10-inch-wide seatback pocket provided any sort of storage space.

In the armrest between seats was a two-prong headphone jack, a USB power outlet and a universal power outlet for each seat.

Each premium-class seat had a leg rest; non-bulkhead seats had a footrest that folded down from the seat in front.

The LOT Premium Class felt older and outdated than it should’ve been for a product just a few years old.

Pros include a comfortable chair for sleeping and sizable well-presented meals.

Cons included a hot cabin, cold service from the crew, poor communication during a delayed departure, a limited entertainment system and no Wi-Fi.
