Air Astana has configured their Airbus A320neo aircraft with 16 recliner-style Business Class seats featuring a foot rest and 132 standard Economy Class seats.

The overall cabin layout is similar with its older model Airbus A320-200 (ceo).

Air Astana operates its A320neo’s with a two-class cabin (business and economy).

In addition to this, some seats are designated as “MySeat” and you can pay extra to secure them (the fee ranges from $US10 to $US45 depending on the seat and length of the flight).

The seats, both in business and economy, were of the old-style, sturdy type, which is not necessarily bad news for the passenger, and covered in dark blue-grey leather.

Air Astana offers free wireless streaming IFE on its narrow-body fleet BUT before the flight you need to download a dedicated app (branded as KCTV) , that is not the acronym of “Kansas City TV”, but a reference to Air Astana’s code “KC”.

There are over 60 movies and about half that number of series and tv programmes to choose from, plus several hundred music tracks.

IFE is offered in English, Kazakh and Russian and it includes a moving map too.

The narrow-body aircraft Airbus A320-200 is configured with 16 recliner-style Business Class seats featuring a foot rest and 132 standard Economy Class seats.

There’s a foot rest and each seat has its own universal power point beneath the inner armrest, which is wide enough for two and has both a small fixed shelf area and a pullout shelf for extra space to put drinks, bowls of nuts, etc.

Seat recline was reasonable but unremarkable, and there’s plenty of overhead bin space for the number of seats.

Row four is the back one, and with this plane type there is no hard partition between business and economy.

There’s no seat-back IFE screen – instead, tablets are handed out offering KCTV’s range of about 50 movies plus games and a couple of TV series.

This system is very easy to navigate and the headphones that come with it are comfortable and work well – a strap in the seat-back in front of you allows you to hang the tablet at face height for more comfortable viewing.

The Business Class cabin is configured with 16 spacious seats that transform into a fully-flat although slightly slanted bed.

The seat stretches forwards and down into an angled-flat bed, but it feels rather undignified to be so low to the ground with your feet lying on the floor, and has limited comfort levels.

Additional issues include an almost total lack of storage space, no direct aisle access for window passengers, and no inbuilt IFE screens.

Instead, business class passengers receive a tablet and headphones to stream content.

With only 16 seats in four rows for business, there is not a great deal of choice.

If you don’t want to be disturbed by your neighbour clambering over you, choose the window seat.

Conversely, if you like to be up and down a lot, choose the aisle.

The front of the cabin is next to the galley and bathroom, so it does suffer from additional noise/traffic disturbance.

The Economy Class cabin is configured with 150 standard seats.

A unique feature offered by the airline in Economy Class is the Economy Sleeper.

The Economy Sleeper is located at the front of the Economy Class cabin and is a collection of three adjacent seats that have a raisable foot rest that transforms the collection into a small bed.

A thin mattress, a pillow, and a duvet are provided.

On most of Air Astana’s Boeing 757-200’s inflight entertainment monitors are available at every seat.

There are a few aircraft that do not have the monitors.
