On February 1st, one of Hainan Airlines’ Boeing 737 MAX took off from Haikou Meilan International Airport (HAK) and landed at Kunming Changshui International Airport (KMG).
This makes Hainan Airlines the second Chinese domestic airline, after China Southern Airlines, to resume the Boeing 737 MAX commercial operations.
China was the first country to ground the Boeing 737 MAX in March 2019, followed by the rest of the world.
A total of 97 Boeing 737 MAX have been grounded in China, including 16 by Air China, 14 by China Eastern Airlines (and Shanghai Airlines), 24 by China Southern Airlines, 11 by Hainan Airlines, ten by Xiamen Airlines, five by Shenzhen Airlines, seven by Shandong Airlines, three by Lucky Air, two by Ok Air, two by Fuzhou Airlines, two by Kunming Airlines and one by Juneyao Airlines.

Hainan Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft is configured with Business and Economy Class seating.
The standard seats in Economy feature a redesign of the back literature pocket and tray table to provide additional leg space.
The seat also contains a drop-down tablet/personal device holder positioned at a comfortable viewing level.
The business class cabin has eight seats in a 2-2 formation, while economy has 168 seats in a 3-3 layout.
Economy class seating will be a new slimline offering with “improved legroom”, and each will have a 2.1A USB power supply for charging devices.
This is particularly valuable seeing as the airline has done away with in-flight entertainment screens in economy class in favor of seatback iPad holders.
