Alaska Airlines Fleet Spirit of Disneyland II Livery Plane Boeing 737-900. The “Spirit of Disneyland II” livery features Disney characters Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Goofy and Donald Duck in tribute to our long-term partnership with Disneyland® Resort.

This Boeing 737-900 aircraft joined with the Boeing 737-800 “Adventures of Disneyland” resort on Alaska Airlines fleet with Disney characters special livery.

The plane is adorned with the faces of Disney’s most recognized characters – Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and, for the first time, Pluto. The new design replaces a previous Disney-themed aircraft retired two weeks ago.

Alaska Airlines’ Boeing 737-900 aircraft made its inaugural flight from Portland to Los Angeles International Airport carrying three Make-A-Wish® children on their way to the Disneyland Resort to have their wishes granted.

The “Spirit of Disneyland II” is the first 737-900 Disney-themed aircraft in Alaska Airlines’ fleet. The airline introduced the first “Spirit of Disneyland,” aircraft, graced with the faces of Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck and Goofy, in 2002 and debuted the “Magic of Disneyland,” featuring Tinker Bell, in 2005 in celebration of Disneyland’s 50th anniversary.

In 2006, Alaska introduced its “Spirit of Make-A-Wish” aircraft, adorned with the image of the wish-granting Genie from Disney’s “Aladdin” and the Make-A-Wish Foundation logo.

It is the fifth Disney-themed airplane born out of the successful partnership between Seattle-based Alaska Airlines and Disneyland Resort.

The Adventure of Disneyland Resort aircraft received its new livery at Aviation Technical Services in Everett, Wash. A team of specialists from Associated Painters Inc. accomplished the complicated painting process, including a sponge-type application to re-create Mater’s rust-colored finish.

**Adventure of Disneyland Resort trivia**

A 34-member crew worked around the clock for 29 days at Associated Painters Inc. to paint the plane.
Painters painstakingly airbrushed the aircraft with 70 unique colors and applied more than 10,000 square feet of vinyl graphics to create the lifelike characters, including the headlights, tire rims and eyes.
More than 72,000 linear feet of masking tape was used during the painting of the Adventure of Disneyland Resort.
Mater’s rustic-looking muffler, which is located on the tail of the jet, will naturally change color over time due to the plane’s normal exhaust stains.
The 129-foot-long Boeing 737-800 has a wingspan of 117 feet and a cruising speed of 530 mph.
The plane accommodates 157 passengers and six crew members.

Alaska Airlines Commemorative aircraft Portland Timbers plane Boeing 737-700. The Boeing 737-700 paint theme is a combination of two designs created by Paul Wright of Portland and John Bode of San Mateo, Calif for a “Paint-the-Plane” contest in 2011.

The aircraft features the Portland Timbers’ name and logo in the team’s trademark colors with a rising sun across the forward part of the fuselage.

In January 2011, the Portland Timbers and Alaska Airlines teamed up to launch a special ‘Paint the Plane’ art contest asking fans to create artwork to adorn an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-700.

Entries were judged based on originality, creativity and the ability to express the Portland Timbers brand by a group of Alaska Airlines and Timbers representatives.

Elements of the two first-place designs created by Paul Wright, of Portland, and John Bode of San Mateo, Calif., were combined into a final design that now adorns an Alaska Airlines 737-700 jet and flies throughout the carrier’s network. One runner up and seven honorable mentions were also recognized.

The final design of the Timbers-themed airplane was unveiled during a special event at Portland International Airport in early May and immediately entered regular service to all cities currently served by Alaska Airlines with a 737-700.

The plane accommodates 124 passengers and five crew members.

A crew of 18 people worked around the clock for 16 days to paint the plane.
The painting process required 130 gallons of paint, about 4,500 sheets of sandpaper and 51,000 feet of masking tape.

Alaska Airlines Commemorative aircraft Spirit of Seattle plane Boeing 737-800. Introduced in 2008, the “Spirit of Seattle” celebrates Alaska Airlines’ longstanding business relationship with its hometown partner, The Boeing Co.

The special livery features Boeing’s sweeping blue stripes and Alaska’s beloved Eskimo.

In 2005, due to the greater efficiency of the Boeing 737 Next Generation and rising costs for maintenance, fuel, and crew training, Alaska Airlines decided to phase out its remaining 26 MD-80s and trained its pilots to fly the newer Boeing 737-800s that were being ordered to replace them.

According to the airline, the MD-80 burned 1,100 US gallons (4,200 l) of fuel per hour, while the 737-800 burns just 850 US gallons (3,200 l) per hour.

The last MD-80 flights flew on August 25, 2008, with one flight from San Jose to Seattle and another from Sacramento to Seattle.

To mark its transition to an all-Boeing fleet, Alaska Airlines unveiled a 737-800 called Spirit of Seattle with Boeing’s house colors painted on the fuselage and the airline’s Eskimo logo painted on the tail fin.

Alaska Airlines Commemorative aircraft Spirit of the Islands plane Boeing 737-800. Honolulu high school student Aaron Nee designed Alaska’s “Spirit of the Islands” livery honoring the Aloha State after winning a statewide “Paint-the-Plane” contest in 2013.

As the grand prize, Nee’s artwork adorns the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-800 jet honoring the unique culture of the Aloha State.

Nee’s entry was one of three finalists selected by a panel of judges.

It was then picked the winner in an online vote open to Hawaii residents.

Alaska Airlines sponsored the contest in partnership with the Hawaii Department of Education and Hawaii Association of Independent Schools.

The winning design depicts a voyaging canoe, a bright yellow hibiscus, the Hawaiian island chain and the phrase “Spirit of the Islands.”
