French Bee, the first French low-cost long-haul airline, has become the first airline to operate solely with Airbus’s newest aircraft, the A350-900 XWB.

While the Airbus A350 isn’t a rarity on operations across the Atlantic Ocean, its services with French bee provide a unique offering.

The low-cost carrier holds four units of the widebody within its fleet, heading to the likes of New York, San Francisco, and soon Los Angeles with the type.

While French bee isn’t the only A350 operator flying between Europe and the US, it is the only low-cost commercial airline to do so.

The new generation Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, developed specifically for this aircraft, make it possible to achieve significant fuel savings and to reduce CO2 emissions by 25 percent.

Particularly light thanks to the use of advanced materials and composites, the A350 XWB is equipped with wings, which change form over the course of the flight, like a bird, and revolutionary “winglets” (external extremity of the wing), which help to optimise the aerodynamics of the plane.

Thanks to these innovations, the A350 XWB can considerably reduce its carbon footprint.

Duo seat: rows with only two seats in them cost $50. The only ones of these I saw were in the emergency-exit rows.
Cozy cabin seat: the first five rows of the economy cabin ahead of the boarding door. While the pitch is the same in these rows, French Bee charges $35 each for seats in this cabin.

Seats measure just 18 inches across, making them an inch narrower than the seats Singapore offers on the same plane — even though SQ’s are arranged in a more dense 2-4-2 configuration.

At just 18 inches wide with 36 inches of pitch, the seats didn’t feel much more spacious than, say, Economy Plus on a United 767, where you’ll find similar width and legroom.

Most Airbus A350 aircraft are configured with 3-3-3 seating, three sections of three seats each, in economy.

However, French Bee and its sister airline Air Caraïbes stand alone among the dozens of airlines operating the A350 in opting for a cramped 3-4-3 configuration.

This arrangement reduces seats to 16.75 inches wide, leaving just 16 inches between armrests.

Aisles measure a tight 16 inches wide.

Between the extra seat per row and no business or first-class cabin, French Bee A350 aircraft are fitted with a whopping 411 seats.

Airbus advertises the A350-900 as accommodating 325 passengers.

French Bee incorrectly advertises its economy cabin on its website.

It claims to have nine seats abreast in 3-3-3 seating instead of the actual 3-4-3 arrangement.

And there are 376 economy seats instead of the 350 seats it claims.

If you want a little more space, you’ll want to target rows 48 to 51.

The curvature of the plane narrows the cabin, so French Bee installed 3-3-3 seating.

While most of the extra space is added to the aisle, the seats are ever-so-slightly wider in these back seats.

Just note that there’s no overhead bin in the middle section of rows 47 to 51, due to the crew rest overhead.

The seat’s tray table measured 14 inches wide and 8.5 inches deep on the sides with a curve in the middle that reduced the depth to as little as 7.5 inches.

The tray table slid back by up to 3 inches.

The massive, 376-seat economy cabin had eight bathrooms, meaning one lavatory needed to serve up to 47 passengers.

There were two in the boarding-door galley, four in the middle galley and two in the rear galley.

Each seat was equipped with a sharp, 10-inch inflight entertainment screen with a modest selection of movies and TV shows.

Since June 2019, La Compagnie is operating brand new Airbus A321neo planes for more comfort, innovation and fuel efficiency.

La Compagnie is the first airline in France to operate this new generation of aircraft that consumes 30% less fuel than our previous planes.

Unique and spacious, La Compagnie A321neo cabins are configured with just 76 seats arranged in 2×2 rows.

Passengers thus benefit from personalized service and extra personal space as well as a warm atmosphere thanks to the LED lighting.

With this A321neo, La Compagnie is an airline that is essentially revolutionizing transatlantic business class travel (though admittedly in very limited markets).

They’re making business class in markets like New York to Paris affordable in a way that it never has been before.

La Compagnie Fleet Airbus A320-200 Cabin Interior Class Configuration and Seats Layout

The La Compagnie Airbus A321neo version presented here represents an updated focus for the airline’s transatlantic Business Class service.

The cabin has been configured with 76 comfortable seats that transform into fully flat beds.

Additionally, the seats are arranged 2-2, include individual 15.7 inch inflight entertainment monitors, power sockets, USB power ports, reading lamps, compartments for personal items, and have access to complimentary Wi-Fi.

La Compagnie selected B/E Aerospace Diamond seats for their A321neos, which are fully flat seats.

These are pretty common seats that you’ll also find on dozens of other airlines (in the US you’ll find them on select American A321s, as well as on select American, Delta, and United 757-200s).

The reason these seats are so efficient is because the footwell is underneath the seat in front, meaning that the amount of space needed per seat isn’t that great.

In these B/E Aerospace Diamond seats, there’s a storage compartment to the back right of the seat, which also has the headphone jack and USB outlet.

There was a permanent privacy partition between seats.

The seat controls were on the center panel, and were easy to use.

The tray table also extended out from the center armrest, and could be folded in half.

To the side of the center console was a literature pocket and the entertainment controller.

Underneath the entertainment monitor was both a small shelf as well as the footwell.

76 FULL FLAT SEATS

All seats recline to perfectly horizontal beds for maximum rest during the journey.

They have a length of 192cm in bed position and a thick, soft overlay.

Each is equipped with a reading lamp, compartments for personal items and electronics, an electrical outlet, headphone jack, and a pouch for documents.

For our customers’ comfort and well-being onboard, we provide anti-allergenic pillows, large soft covers, and a travel care amenity kit with Caudalie hydrating products included.

IN-FLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT

Each passenger has a 15.6-inch seat mounted screen display at their disposal.

It comes complete with a wide selection of movies, including classics, indie favorites and new releases, and expertly curated music.

Noise-cancelling headsets are also offered to passengers for total comfort.

All passengers have access to free, unlimited high-speed Wi-Fi during their flight from their personal devices.

They can access a portal of curated content such as newspapers, magazines, and a news channel.

There is even an e-shop offering exclusive sales of premium brands throughout the flight.

Audio. A wide selection of music is offered for listening pleasure.
Video. A 15.7 inch inflight entertainment monitor is available at each seat. Access to a variety of films and short video presentations is available for on demand viewing pleasure.
AC Power. Power sockets and USB ports are available at every seat.
WiFi. Free Wi-Fi access is provided by Viasat.
Food. French gastronomy is featured on all flights. Fine wines, champagne, and a selection of other beverages are available during the flight. Meal service is tailored to each flight and is published monthly on the La Compagnie website. Descriptions follow: France to USA – Passengers may enjoy a four-course meal starting with an appetizer, progressing to a main course featuring two selections, a cheese plate, and ending with dessert. Light snacks are offered shortly before arrival. USA to France – Passengers are served a light snack at the start of the flight and a full breakfast prior to arrival in France. Passengers are encouraged, due the overnight flying time, to eat dinner prior to the flight in the Art & Lounge at the Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Light snacks are also offered throughout the flight. Passengers with dietary concerns may order a special meal at least 51 hours prior to departure.
