Polaris, Economy Plus and Economy seating is available on this Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

Polaris class on this aircraft features a standard Business Class seat which transforms into a fully flat bed. Polaris inflight service is offered.

On the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, an aircraft which will be amongst the last to receive “true Polaris”, business class is strikingly familiar.

United Airlines uses B/E Aerospace Diamond seats, which are also used by the likes of Qatar Airways on single aisle planes, American and Delta on transcontinental business class and Air China on many wide body jets.

The seats are configured in a 2x2x2 layout on the 787-9 and although they are not revolutionary by any means, they’re quite effective.

Business class features 48 seats in total spread over two cabins (with a galley and lavatories in between).

United still offers the best bedding in business class, with a mattress pad upon request, a plush pillow and cooling gel foam pillow, and a comfortable blanket. 

The economy plus seats were arranged in a 3-3-3 configuration.

Economy Plus seats have 35″ of pitch, are 17.3″ wide and offer a 4-inch recline.

United’s 787-9s have two economy class cabins with all seats in a 3-3-3 configuration.

The front economy class cabin features Economy Plus, while the rear section is branded United Economy.

Unlike the Lufthansa A380, there are two power ports per row of three seats in addition to a USB charger on the setback monitor.

The seats do not (seem) to recline quite as much as other airlines, but the articulating seat pan slides up when you recline the seat.

Business First class consists of 48 flat bed seats that have 180 degrees recline.

These seats are located in 8 rows divided into 2 sections.

First sections contains 5 rows of seats per 6 seats in each.

The main disadvantage of the seats of 1st row is proximity of the lavatory and galleys, noise from which may disturb passengers of these seats.

The seats 1DE have less storage space in overhead bins.

The seats 4A and 4L have no windows.

Close location of the galleys and lavatories will be bothersome for passengers of the seats of 5th row.

Second section of Business first class seats contains 3 rows of seats that have 2-2-2 configuration.

All the seats here are standard only seats of the 6th row have such a disadvantage as proximity of the galleys and lavatories.

Economy Plus class may transport 88 passengers.

Most of the seats are located in the first section that contains 9 rows that have 3-3-3 configuration.

Passengers with infants are often seated on the seats of 16th row.

These seats have extra legroom thanks to the bulkhead position.

However, these seats have no overhead storage space.

The only disadvantage of the seats of 24th row is close location of the galley and lavatories.

7 more seats of Economy Plus class are located in the second section together with economy class seats.

These are the seats 24BC, 27JK and 29DEF.

Passengers of these seats will take advantage of extra space for their legs but close location of the lavatories and galley may be bothersome.

There are 116 seats in the Economy Class.

The seats 27A and 27L have no windows but have extra legroom thanks to the exit row located in front.

However, protrusion of the exit door may cause some discomfort.

The seats 38A and 38L are missing windows.

The seats 40ABC, 40JKL and 41DEF are considered bad seats as they have limited overhead storage room and other passengers tend to congregate in this area while waiting to use lavatories.
